English Con Salsa

The poem “English con Salsa” is the one I chose for my poetry essay.  English is my second language and just by looking at the title I knew I could understand it and relate to it. One way, I believe, you can call the mixing of spanish and english language is Spanglish. Like me, a lot of hispanic children and teenagers speak English at work and school and they speak spanish at home. Therefore, the way we speak is almost like the way Gina Valdes wrote this poem. This poem is also a reality in the lives of  those who migrate to the U.S; everything is different and new. But Through Gina’s choice of words and imagery, she makes her students feel more comfortable with the American culture and language.
